CES 2024: Acer Announces New Laptops
CES is in full swing now, meaning we are seeing a flood of announcements around new laptops. The gaming laptop segment is particularly hot right now, with Acer announcing no less than five new models in their Nitro and Predator brands, all using 14th generation Intel processors. Lake Raptor processor update.
Acer Nitro 17 (AN17-72)
We start first with the new Nitro 17 (AN17-72), which uses up to an Intel Core i7-14700HX (Raptor Lake Refresh) processor. The 14700HX features 8 performance cores, 12 efficiency cores, and a max boost frequency of 5.3 GHz. Basic systems will come with a Core i5-14450HX, while the Core i7-4650HX option slots in nicely in the middle. Systems can be equipped with up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and up to 2 TB of NVMe SSD storage in a RAID-0 configuration.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series is the ideal solution for mobile gamers, so Acer offers up to an RTX 4060 in the Nitro 17. While the company doesn’t explicitly say so, we would assume the RTX 4050 will be offered in entry-level configurations. RTX 40 class graphics will push pixels to a 17-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display with a 165 Hz refresh rate. Acer claims a 3 ms overdrive response time and up to 100 percent DCI-P3 coverage.
Other features include dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1 support, microSD slot, and Wi-Fi 6E support. Acer has also infused the Nitro 17 with a four-zone RGB keyboard.
The Nitro 17 will make its North American debut later this month with a starting price of $1,249.
