AT&T Prepaid recently launched a new unlimited plan and various deals, but it has also confirmed today that it is raising the prices of its unlimited plans. The price increase comes with a small benefit: more hotspot data.
According to CNET, AT&T will raise the price of its unlimited plans by 99 cents per line per month. The change will go into effect on March 5, but customers are supposed to receive notifications about the price increases starting this weekend.
On the other hand, new customers who decide to sign up for a new AT&T unlimited plan will be paying more starting today. Among the changes already in place and appearing on the carrier’s website, it is worth noting that AT&T’s cheapest plan, Unlimited Starter, is now called Unlimited Starter SL.
In addition to the name change, the basic plan will also receive 5 GB of hotspot data, an increase of 2 GB compared to the previous offer. Also, the plan Unlimited Extra has been renamed to Unlimited Extra EL and now offers 30 GB of hotspot data instead of just 15 GB.
Finally, AT&T’s most expensive unlimited plan, Unlimited Premium, is now known as Unlimited Premium PL and includes nothing less than 60 GB of hotspot data (up from 50 GB).
In the same announcement, AT&T confirmed that the prices of its cheapest Value Plus option will increase by 99 cents. It will also be renamed to Value Plus VL. Although the plan does not include hotspot data, customers can now add up to 10 lines instead of just one (all in this specific plan).
Customers of the carrier’s Unlimited Elite plan will not be affected by these changes, but they were already hit by the rate increase last year.
According to AT&T, this is the first time it has had to raise the prices of its unlimited plans since they were introduced four years ago.
