Jennifer Hyatt has filed a lawsuit, alleging that the
Pixel 6 Pro has a defect that makes it unbearably hot.
Law360 reports (via
Top Class Actions) that Hyatt came to this conclusion after going through numerous replacement units, each of them prone to overheating.
Hyatt believes that Google was aware of the defect and points to an article titled “Help prevent your Pixel phone from getting too warm or hot” on the company’s website as proof. The author claims that despite knowing about the defect, Google did not alert consumers that the Pixel 6 Pro was prone to overheating and marketed it as if there was nothing wrong with the device.
The lawsuit wants Google to run ads warning Pixel 6 Pro users about the defect, recall all devices, and issue refunds to people who purchased the device.
Hyatt wants to represent California consumers who bought the Pixel 6 Pro in the state. The lawsuit alleges that Google is guilty of violating the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, the False Advertising Law, the Unfair Competition Law, and the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act.
It remains to be seen whether the lawsuit will go to trial or be dismissed by the court.
Last year, a separate case was filed against Google for misleading claims about the charging capabilities of the Pixel 6 duo.
Google makes great smartphones and, although the Pixel 6 has suffered from various issues, it might be a bit of a stretch to say that all Pro models had a defect that caused overheating, although the company could have acted more responsibly.
